Competition round up

Since the last update the rowing section has taken part in St Neots Regatta (side by side racing taking place over 2 days on a 400m and 800m course) and the Yare Cup (a timed Head of the River Race held every year on the Yare)

Fortunes were mixed at St Neots with the men's coxed four going out in the first round on both the saturday and sunday but with Tim Ford winning the men's IM2 single sculls event over the longer 800m course. (his first regatta after a 10 year absence from the sport)

James Anderson and Justin St Ruth also (finally) managed to lose their novice status by winning the Veteran Novice double sculls on the sunday

The club also entered crews in the Novice doubles, Veteran D and Veteran Novice singles.

With the regatta season now finished until the spring attention turns to the Head of the River races with the club taking part in its first of the season on Saturday 26 September

The Yare Cup takes place on the River Yare over a 3700m course starting at The Woods End pub in Bramerton and finishing at Whitlingham common. Boats set off at 30 second intervals and are timed over the course

The club entered 3½ crews in the race - Lawrence Taylor (Veteran D single scull) and James Anderson and Justin St Ruth (coxless pair) raced in the first division. Lawrence raced again in the second division this time making up a Mixed Novice double scull with Lynn Powley (entering her first race after taking up the sport in the summer) and Tim Ford and Justin Wood raced as part of a composite quad scull with Simon Mulvaney and Ian Postlethwaite from Yare Boat Club.

The quad was the only club's only success, posting the fastest time of the day of any crew, though the mixed double finished in a creditable time for their first race and the pair finished a comfortable second out of the 4 boats in their category, unable to catch a very fast more experienced crew from Norwich Rowing Club
